Adult Baptism
As you would expect for a church that calls
itself ‘Baptist’, baptism is important to us as
a step in the journey of faith. It is one of the
‘sacraments’ that Jesus commanded his
followers to continue: “Therefore, go and make
disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the son and of the Holy Spirit…” (Matthew 28: 19)
We practise a model of “believer’s baptism”, where someone professes their faith in Jesus and their determination to follow him, symbolised by washing away their ‘old life’ through full immersion in water. We run baptism classes for people considering getting baptised, to explore more fully what it means and to help them decide whether it is a step they are ready to take. Baptism services are always a time of great celebration in the life of the church family. [Click here to view]

Infant Dedication and Thanksgiving
As a Baptist church we practise “believer’s baptism” – in other words, it is a decision made by the individual themselves. So we do not baptise babies or infants, but we are happy to celebrate with parents in an act of dedication and thanksgiving. This provides the opportunity to welcome a child into the church family and to invite the parents and congregation to give thanks for the gift of a child, to pray for God’s blessing upon the child and its parents, and to dedicate ourselves, as parents and as a church fellowship, to play our part in nurturing the child in a Christian environment.
Infant dedication and thanksgiving usually takes place during a morning service, though services at other times may be arranged by special request. For more information, contact rev@sidcupbaptistchurch.org.uk.
